Day 1: Arrival Bushveld

Your African adventure begins at OR Tambo International, where you are met for the journey into the heart of the Bushveld. This region’s iconic umbrella thorns and thick acacia thickets provide an immediate sense of wild seclusion. After a warm welcome, you will settle into your camp.

The afternoon is dedicated to a range session to ensure your rifle is perfectly zeroed for the Bushveld’s typical shooting distances. Once prepared, we head out for an initial orientation drive. This allows you to witness the local wildlife as the sun sets over the densely wooded horizon.

Mornings start early with coffee before heading into the bush for the primary hunt. After a mid-day brunch and a period of relaxation in camp, we return to the savanna for the late afternoon session. Every night features traditional cuisine and storytelling under a vast canopy of stars.

Beginners Bushveld Hunting Package FAQs

Find answers to common questions about our beginner-friendly camps, safety protocols, and the typical daily rhythm of a first-time Bushveld safari.

What is the typical shooting distance in the Bushveld?

In our dense Bushveld savanna, you will find that visibility is often limited by thick vegetation and acacia thickets. Consequently, most of your shots will be taken at relatively close ranges, typically between 60 and 120 yards. This provides you with an ideal environment to practice steady, supported shots off traditional tripod shooting sticks under your PH's expert guidance.

Is camo clothing permitted for this safari?

Yes, camouflage is legal and highly recommended for your hunt here. Earth tones like olive green or dark khaki work best to break you up against the savanna. Since we provide you with a daily laundry service, you only need to pack three or four sets of quiet, breathable clothing for your entire five-day stay in our bushveld camp.

Do I need to bring my own firearm?

While you are welcome to bring your own, it is certainly not a requirement. You can make use of the rifles of your Professional Hunter, where the only cost involved is the replacement cost of ammunition. This is a popular option for our first-time guests who wish to avoid the logistics and paperwork involved in international firearm permits.

What is a typical day like for a hunter?

You will begin your day before dawn with coffee and rusks before we head into the savanna together. You’ll spend the morning tracking game through thick acacia cover. Around 11:00 AM, you’ll return to camp for a hearty brunch and a midday siesta. Your hunt resumes at 2:30 PM until sunset, followed by dinner and stories around the campfire.

What area activities are available to observers?

Observers are more than welcome to accompany the hunters in the field to experience the excitement firsthand. If you prefer a change of pace, the Bushveld offers fantastic birdwatching, trips to the Lion & Safari Park, or exploring the famous Cullinan Diamond Mine. Relaxing at the lodge with a refreshment remains a perennial favorite for many between our sessions.

Species which are available in the Bushveld

You are welcome to take additional trophies beyond those in your package as opportunities arise. This is subject to the availability of specific species quotas and required permits. Any extra trophies will be charged according to our current list prices.
