Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Cape Town

Guests are transferred to O.R. Tambo International Airport for a flight to Cape Town. Guests are met upon arrival at Cape Town International Airport from where a day is spent exploring one the world's most beautiful cities. Table Mountain, arguably the most famous natural landmark in Africa is first on the agenda. From Table Mountain one of the most impressive views of the world can be enjoyed - the Indian Ocean and the deep blue waters of the Atlantic and the Cape Peninsula which sinks away and allows these two great oceans to meet at Cape Point. We also visit the world famous Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens which had its conception when the mining magnate and philanthropist Cecil Rhodes donated the land to the people of South Africa. The garden is home to 4000 of the 18000 species of Flora which are found in South Africa and creates a most remarkable display. It is the memorial to one of Africa's greatest son's (Cecil John Rhodes) from where sweeping views of the entire Cape Flats can be enjoyed where we end an unforgettable day.
Overnight: Cape Cadogan
Meals: Dinner

Day 2: Cape Town

The tour ventures south and makes its way to the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve. The drive of about an hour is one of the worlds most scenic as sheer cliffs and towering mountains contrast with the waters of the Atlantic. In the nature reserve we visit Cape Point where the stormy waters of the Atlantic are reputedly met by the calming influence of the Indian Ocean. On the return journey to Cape Town we visit the towns of Simonstad and Muizenberg which are set along the shores of the Indian Ocean. A stop is also made at Boulders beach where the antics of a colony of African penguins provide guests with some exceptional photographic opportunities. The tour returns to Cape Town during the late afternoon.
Overnight: Cape Cadogan
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 3: Cape Town

After breakfast a forty-minute drive leads the tour into the heart of South Africa's wine producing region where the stark contrast between vineyards and harsh mountains create the perfect backdrop to a tour of the historical town of Stellenbosch. The town is the oldest in South Africa after Cape Town, and is undoubtedly the most scenic and historically-preserved town in Southern Africa. Oak-lined streets next to water furrows compliment the many fine examples of elegant Cape Dutch, Victorian and Georgian architecture - all part of this unique "Town of Oaks".
The town, ideally situated in a magnificent mountain valley, boasts a mild Mediterranean climate. The Stellenbosch Wine route is the oldest, largest and probably the most visited of the Southwest Cape's wine routes. Many of the estates are very old, their gabled, whitewashed Cape Dutch Homesteads, rolling vineyards and shade-dappled grounds lovely beyond measure. We visit two of these fine estates where the art of wine making in South Africa is experienced first hand. A large variety of cultivars can be sampled and a specific cultivar which appeals to your palette is sure to be found. The tour returns to Cape Town during the late afternoon.
Overnight: Cape Cadogan
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 4: Departure

A short ferry ride from the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront brings guests to Robben Island. This infamous Island only 574 Ha in extent , measuring 3,5 by 2 km, has played an important role in South Africa's long and turbulent history. Views which can be enjoyed off the Cape Peninsula and the South African mother city make the ferry ride quite an enjoyable experience. Home to President Nelson Mandela for a large part of his 27 year incarceration, the prison has since been turned into a museum and the tour is conducted by an ex political prisoner who has had first hand experience of the conditions on the Island. Visits are made to the prison building as well as to the lime stone quarry where the prisoners where forced to work. Some wildlife have been re-introduced to the Island and a glimpse might be enjoyed of one of Africa's animals in these surroundings. The duration of the Robben Island excursion including the return ferry ride is about four hours which would bring guests back to the V& A Waterfront around lunch time. Guests are then transferred to Cape Town International Airport for a flight to Johannesburg where a memorable photographic tour ends.
